Every journey begins with a single step
I want you to stop for one second, and ask yourself this question: Do you enjoy what you do for living?
In a recent survey, it was stated that only about 3% of Americans actually enjoy their line of work. That does not fit in with my vision of the way life should be lived. I believe that every morning, you should wake and look forward to the day ahead. That if you can't enjoy the way your life is, you're not living life to it's fullest. Personally, I'm not gonna sit by and turn into that 97% that just gets by on paycheck alone.
This past weekend, I flew down to Florida and took a tour of Full Sail Real World Education, which is a media arts school. They teach courses in Computer Animation, Digital Media, Entertainment Business, Film, Game Design & Development, Recording Arts and Show Production & Touring. I think the greatest thing the tour did was open my eyes as to what is was like. They never ONCE sugar-coated anything. They say you will leave this school into an entry-level position, you will not be earning the big bucks out of the gate. You will have classes for 40 hours a week, with a strict attendence code. You're educated in as close to a work-like situation as you can get. I even heard tales of classes starting at 1am. Basically, you're getting not only an education in skills, but also work ethic. It'll be hard, it'll be intense and it will be greuling. And this is what I want to do.
They can teach me the skills I need to get the job I want: doing something I love. Just before my senior year of high school, I had decided I had no idea what I wanted to do. I had several hobbies at the time. Now, several years after all that one hobbie stuck with me. My artwork and love of “image manipulation.” Photoshop is my virtual playground. I will earn a living doing that. I will earn a living by drawing and working in Photoshop (or some variation thereof). It is my hope, my goal… to get into the Gaming Industry. I want to work in an enviroment where my imagination is allowed to flow, and be fueled by those around me. I've taken the first step towards my goal. I can once again walk into work with my renewed enthusiasm due to the fact that I have taken that step.
The path lay before me, and I have begun to walk it. So once this week ends, and Football season slacks up. I will devote as much attention as I can to not only getting ready for school, but also to this site to help refine what skills I have now. So expect the Sketch of the Day to live once again. Or at least I certainly hope so.
On an unrelated side-note: I got my new iPod yesterday. ^^
