murf-ART Help Guide

There's a lot of art on this site, and it can be daunting to check it all out, especially when your not sure what some the jargon around here means. To make things a bit easier for you, I've set up this little guide for you to get your way around.

Art Categories:

Categories are how art entries are sorted by their quality, purpose or appearance.

Color
These are finished pieces, full of vibrant colors produced via Adobe Photoshop or some other means.
Sketch
These are sketches of stuff that I have drawn under the intention of using them for some purpose. Pre-planning, character concepts, meant for coloring, etc. These tend to be more refined and well thought out over over forms of sketches.
Daily
Stuff from the "Sketch of the Day" section. These serve no greater purpose other then practice, or to fend off boredom. Just quick sketches that I've done.
Animation
Moving artwork, made with Flash.
Outbox
Artwork that I've done for other people.
Inbox
Artwork people have done for me.
Archives
Older artwork that I can't help but usually cringe at, usually from the days before murf-STUFF first hit the internet in April of '04.
Dumpster
Random gathering of failed, or minor doodles not really worthy to be categorized. Typically compiled at each murf-ART update.

Art Types:

Types are how art entries are sorted based upon their origin.

Original Art
Artwork that is 100% based on the inner machinations of my imagination. Something like Heavenly Maiden Hikari would fall here.
Fan Art
Artwork based on pre-existing material.
Mixed Art
Artwork that is a hodge-podge of Original and Fan Art. This may include things such as original characters placed in a pre-existing world. Something like Legend of Xan'Lamar would be found in here.
Commission Art
Artwork people have paid for in some manner.
Gift Art
Artwork made as a present for someone.

Common Original Sources:

Sources are the origins of the artwork. These could be my own original ideas, or letting you know where I based the art from. Since some of these are original ideas, you may get lost when I start talking about them. Here are some sources you may run across on a regular basis.

Heavenly Maiden Hikari
A story idea in which the hero, Touji Omura, takes up the reigns of his family's legacy of being demon-fighting magical girls at the cost of his man-hood by transforming into "Hikari" (a girl) to save his family, and eventually, all of known creation.
Legend of Mivarlia
An old scrapped story idea. The story involved the war-torn planet of Mivarlia in a futuristic setting, in which the heroes must save their world from the clutches of a ruthless dictator bent on world domination, to eventually saving all of galactic civilization from the God of Evil.
Legend of Xan'Lamar
A story based in the world of Vana'diel from Final Fantasy XI. Six heroes (all original characters) do odd jobs as a mercenary team, and are eventually pulled into doing battle with a powerful necromancer.
War of Ages
A scrapped story idea. On the world of Flantinal, in the Kingdom of Fron, a group of friends must prepare for the second coming of the Demon Lord Horoto, who seeks to destory humanity.
